stress, mindfulness & pelvic health.

workshop recording.

Hello hello, reader of Half Baked!

A few weeks ago, I met up with Dr. LaLa Cho of 4th Trimester PT to talk about the connection between the nervous system, stress, and postpartum pelvic health, and to share some practices that aid in connection, awareness and relaxation.

It really blows my mind how postpartum women in the US typically have one useless 6-week appointment where we are basically just offered birth control and encouraged to resume normal activities, with zero guidance on pelvic floor healing and health. Pelvic wellbeing is inextricably tied to the wellbeing of the rest of the physical body, and to our mental/emotional wellbeing.

In this workshop we discuss the relationship between stress and pelvic floor wellness, explore different breathing techniques, move through a short yoga practice aimed to encourage pelvic floor awareness and relaxation, and close with a brief intro to mindfulness meditation.

Peppered throughout are small “micro interventions”— simple strategies that busy parents can fold into their day. At the bottom of this post is a little PDF toolkit compilation of those micro-interventions. Hope it’s of use to you!

Take care,

I’m a doula and yoga teacher. I offer private, 1-on-1 perinatal yoga classes, which (IMHO) make wonderful gifts for pregnant/postpartum friends, or for yourself! I leaned pretty heavily on my yoga/mindfulness practices throughout my pregnancy, labor and postpartum, and I love to share them with others. Click the button to learn more.
